Completion of all works on Karula mountain pass
Completion of phase III of works execution on the M18 Tuzla - Sarajevo, road section Kladanj – Podpaklenik, signalized the completion of all works on the construction of the Karaula mountain pass. The ultimate section of this mountain pass was opened for traffic.
The project of reconstruction of this section was carried out in three phases, which included the construction of M11 and M12 bridges, the construction of the Karaula tunnel with a total length of 902 m and the alignment before and after the tunnel (1195 m), the construction of 1, 5 km of additional alignment and the construction of M13 and M14 bridges. The total value of the project is BAM 38, 9 million.
The entire section was shortened by 3 km while the road users were given 4, 5 km of a modern three-lane road, one of which is slow lane. Road gradient is lowered by 120 m, which is very important for the traffic over the Karaula mountain pass, especially in winter conditions.
